Chunar, earlier known as Chunargarh, is a town and Nagar Palika Parishad in Narainpur Block Chunar Tehsil in Mirzapur District of Uttar Pradesh. The pilgrim center of Varanasi is 25 km north of Chunar and the Mirzapur town is about 33 km west of Chunar.This is region is important in vedic age for worship The area is rich in world best sandstone which is use for making of idol .
Chunar fort is the prime attraction here.
Chunar Junction Railway Station is a major rail head of Mirzapur District. The rail leads to Howrah, Delhi, Tata Nagar and Varanasi. National Highway 7 passes through Chunar.
